About Us
Nṛtya Sangeetha Art Space has been founded in 2015 under the name Sangeetha School of Dance and has been given a new look in 2024 as Nṛtya Sangeetha Art Space. The name Sangeetha has been given by Sarah's spiritual Guru Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji (Datta Peetham, Mysore).
“Geetam Vadyam tatha Nrityam trayam Sangeetham uchyate” - Sangeetha Ratnakara
According to the ancient script of Sangeetha Ratnakara, the very meaning of 'Sangeetha' is threefold; it consists of Geeta (vocals), Vadya (instruments) and Nritya (dance). So 'Sangeetha' not only stands for music, but the interaction of music and movement. They go hand in hand and are inseparable; music is audible movement, dance is music visualized.
Therefore all the classes at Nṛtya Sangeetha Art Space embed and represent this philosophy strongly by including all its aspects. A student will not only learn dance, but the importance and aspects of Carnatic music, instruments and various other music styles.
In Bharatanatyam, the Kalakshetra Bani is the main style which is taught at our school.
In Karana classes, students will not only learn Karanas and their subdivisions, but more over they get to dive into the ancient Margi technique of Natyashastra in order to understand the wholeness and depth of movement as such.
Nṛtya Sangeetha Art Space is a non-religious institution and open to students of all backgrounds, ethnics and beliefs. Even though Bharatanatyam is deeply connected to Hinduism, students are not expected to either be in or know about Hinduism in order to study this art-form. We strongly believe that movement is a spiritual journey beyond any boarders of race, religion or beliefs.
